Physical Hair Damage

Physical hair damage is any action that may cause breakage and dryness to the hair shaft.

Split Ends of Hair Microscopically

Everyone’s hair is different in texture, size, and condition. Because everyone’s hair is different the amount of strain that the hair can handle is different.

Any strain that is put on the hair can put it at risk of breaking. The causes of this type of strain can vary.

Traction Alopecia seen Microscopically Hair breakage can be caused by overheating from hair dryers as well as damage from hair straighteners. Traction alopecia can also be caused by hair being pulled too tight from braiding, ponytails, hair extentions , round brush blow drying.

Effects of Trichotillomania Another problem that can be seen with people of any age is when someone pulls their own hair out. By doing this the damage can cover a large area over a period of time. This can be a serious condition and needs to be treated professionally. The term for this is Trichotillomania.

Microscopic examination is the best way to diagnose this type of problem. Until diagnosis is done the cause cannot be determined. These conditions of the hair shaft cannot be seen by the naked eye.

If you feel you have breakage seek advice.
